The Suspension Bed System
Project Type: Bespoke Furniture & Spatial R&D (Freelance) The Brief: A private client requested a "floating" bed inspired by conceptual imagery, requiring a solution that was safe, functional, and aesthetically minimalist.
01. Concept & Feasibility
The project began by analyzing client-provided inspiration through the lens of Industrial R&D. Unlike standard bed frames, a swinging bed introduces dynamic loads that require an architectural understanding of weight distribution and structural anchoring.
02. Technical R&D & Engineering
To move from a "vision" to a buildable product, I focused on the mechanical intersection of the bed and the ceiling.
Integrated Suspension: I engineered a heavy-duty cable system designed to anchor directly into the building's structural I-beams.
Platform Stabilization: The bed base was developed using a lightweight yet rigid composite to minimize unnecessary strain on the suspension points while providing ergonomic sleep support.
Material Strategy: I selected industrial-grade ropes and polished hardware to create a "refined industrial" look that matched the client’s interior.
03. The Result
The final execution provides a tranquil, weightless experience without compromising the structural integrity of the interior architecture. It serves as a signature example of how I translate high-level conceptual "briefs" into technically superior, custom-manufactured realities.
